Projects

Art for Hire provide paintings by Paul Kenton for Bristol-Myers Squibb's new headquarters, London.

The clean modern lines of the building demanded work of a contemporary nature which would enhance the overall look and ambiance of the working environment for both workers and guests. The company's commitment to excellence is self evident in the both the nature of the work environment and it's employees. It was felt that this should be reflected in works to be used for this project. Within the building there was such a strong sense of an inclusive culture and a dedication on the part of employees to strive for the highest standards of work, that it would be impossible to source work to reflect this.We therefore commissioned Paul Kenton to create some major pieces of work which would not only reflect the values of the company and it's employees but also act as an anchor and weave them into the very fabric of the building. In doing so we created spaces which defined the inclusive culture and commitment of the company by integrating the people with the environment that they work within.

The nature of mixed media on a large canvas makes the artistic process a difficult one. Artists can often make a comparison between bringing a child into the world and the creation of such a complex piece of work. The artist therefore feels a very close emotional attachment to the work and this is evident in this dramatic and intense work. The inspiration for this piece of work came from looking at cross sections of the main artery carrying blood to every corner of the body. The artist wanted to give visual expression to the analogy with the employees at the heart of the corporate entity and their work being channelled to the far reaches of the world via the arteries. He also wanted to produce a landmark work for an area which he felt was at the heart of communicating the pledge and was also a major interface between employees, colleagues, customers and partners.

The juxtaposition of colours and shapes within this work are echoes of the health and wellbeing of the individual both in terms of physical and mental health. It seeks to demonstrate the complexities of the individual and that a healthy mind and body are fundamental to leading a happy and fulfilling life.

This series of three light hearted paintings is specifically intended to brighten and lift what is a busy and energetic breakout area. It represents job satisfaction, teamwork and endeavour and excellence.
